Frequently asked questions

How do I use Time Card Calculator?

1. Enter your clock-in and clock-out times: For each day you worked, enter the start time, the end time and your unpaid break in minutes. Leave days off empty. 2. Add your pay rate (optional): Enter your hourly rate, when overtime starts (40 hours a week by default) and the overtime multiplier, such as 1.5 for time and a half. 3. Read your hours and pay: See the hours for each day, the weekly total in hours and minutes and in decimal hours, regular and overtime hours, and your gross pay. Copy the time card to paste it anywhere.

How do I calculate hours worked?

Subtract the start time from the end time and then take off your unpaid break. For example, 8:00 to 16:30 with a 30-minute break is 8 hours. Do this for each day and add the days up for your weekly hours.

How do I convert hours and minutes to decimal hours?

Divide the minutes by 60 and add them to the hours: 7 hours 45 minutes is 7 + 45 ÷ 60 = 7.75 hours. The calculator shows every total both ways, because payroll usually needs decimal hours.

How is overtime calculated?

Hours above the weekly limit, 40 by default as under the US Fair Labor Standards Act, count as overtime and are paid at your rate times the multiplier. Some states and countries count daily overtime too, so check your local rules.

Can I enter a night shift that ends after midnight?

Yes. If the end time is earlier than the start time, the shift is counted into the next day, so 22:00 to 06:00 is 8 hours before breaks.

Is this a work hours calculator too?

Yes. Leave the pay fields empty and it works as a simple hours calculator for any week. Your times stay in your browser and are never sent to GigaTools.
