The quick fix: join wrapped lines and keep paragraphs
Open Remove Line Breaks, paste the copied passage and leave Keep blank-line paragraphs selected. Use a space as the separator. Run the tool, read the result and copy it back into your document. A single line break becomes a space; a blank line remains a paragraph boundary.
Use Join all lines only when you actually want one continuous line, such as a short description or a list you are converting into comma-separated text. It also removes paragraph boundaries. Remove blank lines only does the opposite job: it keeps each non-empty line separate and removes empty lines between them.
Keep an untouched copy before cleaning a long passage. The tool uses the line breaks present in your pasted text, not the original PDF layout. If every paragraph has only a single break, the paragraph-preserving option cannot know which breaks were intentional. Split those paragraphs manually first.
Why text copied from a PDF has awkward line breaks
A PDF page is laid out for reading or printing. The copy operation may return short lines that follow the page layout rather than continuous prose. You see a sentence ending halfway through, then the next words begin on a new line. When pasted into an editor, those breaks may remain even when there is room for a longer line.
Distinguish a stored line break from ordinary word wrapping. Word wrapping changes when you resize the editor; a stored break keeps the next word on a new line. If widening the window fixes the appearance, there may be no unwanted characters to remove. Cleaning a correctly wrapped paragraph can create unnecessary changes.
Copy a small section first. Check whether headings, footers and columns appear in the right order. If text from two columns is interleaved, joining the lines will not restore the intended reading order. Extract or copy each column separately before attempting spacing cleanup.
A worked example you can try without uploading a PDF
The built-in sample starts with “Keep an original” on one line and “copy before editing.” on the next. A blank line follows, then “Review the result” and “against the source.” appear on two more lines. With the default paragraph setting, the result is two paragraphs: “Keep an original copy before editing.” and “Review the result against the source.”
Switch to Join all lines and the same sample becomes “Keep an original copy before editing. Review the result against the source.” The words stay the same, but the paragraph boundary disappears. Choose Comma and space instead and the four non-empty lines become four comma-separated entries. That is useful for lists, not a natural paragraph.
This example shows the exact rule rather than an automatic understanding of prose. Blank lines are the signal for paragraph boundaries. A heading directly above a paragraph with no blank line will be joined into that paragraph, so add a blank line after the heading when you want to preserve it.
Remove extra spaces as a separate step
After joining the wrapped lines, open Remove Extra Spaces if the text still contains repeated spaces or tabs. Its default mode collapses horizontal whitespace and trims line edges while keeping line breaks. It can tidy “Keep an original” into “Keep an original” without turning two paragraphs into one.
Trim line edges only is a gentler option when you want to remove leading and trailing whitespace but keep spacing within each line. One line replaces whitespace throughout the input with ordinary spaces. Use that setting for a short field that should contain no line breaks, not for an article with headings and lists.
Non-breaking spaces can look like ordinary spaces even when they behave differently. The spacing tool normalizes common whitespace, including non-breaking spaces, in its collapse modes. It does not remove every invisible Unicode character. If two words still refuse to separate or join as expected, inspect that specific location rather than repeatedly processing the whole document.
Review hyphens, lists and tables before copying the result
A word split across two lines may contain a hyphen, but a hyphen can also be part of a genuine compound word. The tool preserves hyphens instead of guessing. If “infor-” ends one line and “mation” starts the next, joining with a space leaves “infor- mation.” Correct that case manually after comparing it with the source.
Preserve separate lines for numbered steps, addresses and bullet lists. Joining “1. Prepare the file” and “2. Check the size” into a single line reduces readability. Process the prose separately from the list, or use Remove blank lines only if the list has unwanted empty lines between entries.
A table needs more care. Tabs and repeated spaces may be separating columns; collapsing them can destroy that structure. Keep the original table, extract it with an appropriate table workflow or edit it in a spreadsheet. These pasted-text tools do not edit an Excel workbook or reconstruct a PDF table.
Start with extraction when you do not yet have usable text
If you can select text in the PDF, copy the relevant passage or use PDF to Text and review the extracted content. Run the line-break remover afterward. Text extraction and paragraph cleanup solve different problems: extracting gives you characters, while cleanup changes the separators already present.
If the page is a scan with no selectable text, it needs optical character recognition before this workflow can help. For a screenshot or image, Image to Text can produce a starting draft. Check names, figures and punctuation carefully because a spacing tool cannot correct recognition errors.
When your source is HTML rather than a PDF, use HTML to Text Converter first. It removes markup and keeps basic paragraph and list structure. Pasting literal HTML into a line-break remover will retain the tags, because the line-break tool treats the input as text.
Check meaning and save a clean copy
Compare the opening and closing sentences with the source, then inspect each heading, list and number. Check that joining lines did not combine unrelated sections. For long passages, compare the original and cleaned version with Diff Checker to see where separators changed.
Copy the result or download it as a UTF-8 text file. Use a clear filename and keep the original nearby until you have finished reviewing. The line-break and spacing tools work on pasted text in your browser, without uploading that text for processing. They do not save a history of your passage.
For a separate task, Email Extractor can pull common email addresses from your own text notes into one address per line. It is not part of paragraph cleanup and does not verify that an inbox exists. Use it when you need to organize addresses already present in a source you are allowed to process.
When cleanup is the wrong next step
Do not automatically clean indentation in source code, fixed-width records or poetry. Whitespace can carry meaning. The same caution applies to a quotation where the original line structure matters: preserve the source layout or explain any changes required by your destination format.
If the extracted text is missing words, contains repeated headers on every page or follows the wrong column order, fix the extraction first. Removing line breaks can make a faulty extract look smoother while leaving the underlying mistakes intact. A readable paragraph is not proof that it matches the PDF.
The safest sequence is simple: extract a small sample, identify real paragraph boundaries, join only the unwanted breaks, tidy spaces and compare the result. Once that sample looks right, apply the same settings to the rest and review the places where layout changes.

Frequently asked questions
Can I remove line breaks without losing paragraphs?
Yes, when paragraphs in the pasted text are separated by blank lines. Keep blank-line paragraphs joins single breaks and preserves those boundaries. If the source uses only single breaks, mark the intended paragraphs first.
Will this fix words split by hyphens?
No. Hyphens are kept because they may belong to genuine compound words. Review split words manually against the source.
Does this tool edit or upload my PDF?
No. Remove Line Breaks processes pasted text in your browser. Extract text from the PDF first if needed.
Why does the text still look broken after cleanup?
The source may have interleaved columns, missing characters or OCR errors. Correct those problems before joining lines; spacing cleanup cannot restore missing or out-of-order content.
