Frequently asked questions

How do I use Whois Checker?

1. Type the domain name: Enter a bare domain such as example.com in Domain name, without https:// or a path. 2. Run the lookup: Press Run Whois Checker. The security check usually runs in the background; answer it if a challenge appears. 3. Read the registration data: The result lists the registrar, the registration, expiry and last-change dates, the status codes, the name servers and DNSSEC.

Which domains does it work for?

Every extension whose registry publishes RDAP, the modern replacement for WHOIS. That covers .com, .net, .org and most newer extensions. Some country codes, such as .de, publish no RDAP and show a message instead.

Why are no owner contact details shown?

Registries and registrars withhold most contact data for privacy. RDAP returns the registrar, dates, status codes and name servers, but owner names, emails and addresses are usually redacted.

Does it use RDAP or format the data?

Yes. The registry is found through IANA’s RDAP list and its answer is shown as a table. For .com and .net, the raw WHOIS record from Verisign is shown instead if RDAP does not respond.

Is my lookup private?

The domain is sent from the GigaTools server to the registry’s RDAP service, and the reply comes back to you as a private, non-cached response. Each run passes a bot check and counts toward a daily limit per IP address, but the tool does not save the domains you look up.
