Frequently asked questions
How do I use Character Counter?
1. Paste or type your text: Put your post, title or message into the Your text box. 2. Read the counts: Characters with and without spaces, words, lines and bytes update as you type. 3. Check the limits: Bars show how close you are to the limits for X, meta titles and descriptions, SMS, YouTube, Instagram and LinkedIn, and turn red when you go over.
Does it count spaces?
Yes. The main figure includes spaces and line breaks, and a second figure counts the characters without any spaces.
How are emoji and accented letters counted?
Each one counts as a single character, the way you see it, even when it is stored as several code points.
Why can X show a different number?
X counts every link as 23 characters and some emoji as two, so use the X bar as a close guide rather than the exact figure.
Is my text uploaded?
No. The counting happens in your browser and your text is never sent to GigaTools.
