Frequently asked questions

How do I use GPA Calculator?

1. Add your courses: For each course, choose the letter grade, enter the credits and pick Regular, Honors or AP / IB. 2. Add your current GPA (optional): For a cumulative GPA, enter your GPA so far and the credits it is based on. 3. Read your GPA: See your semester GPA, your weighted GPA, the credits counted and your new cumulative GPA.

How is GPA calculated?

Each letter grade becomes grade points (A = 4.0, A- = 3.7, B+ = 3.3 and so on), which are multiplied by the course credits, added up and divided by the total credits.

What is the difference between weighted and unweighted GPA?

Unweighted GPA uses the 4.0 scale for every class. Weighted GPA adds 0.5 for honors and 1.0 for AP or IB classes, so it can go above 4.0. An F gets no bonus.

Does an A+ count as 4.3?

Here an A+ counts as 4.0, as at most US schools. Some schools give 4.3, so check your school’s rules.

How is the cumulative GPA worked out?

Your current GPA times its credits is added to this semester’s grade points, then divided by all credits together. It uses unweighted points.
