Frequently asked questions

How do I use Grade Calculator?

1. Pick your grading scale: Choose percent, out of 20, out of 10 or the German 1–6 scale. 2. Enter grades and weights: Write one grade per line with its weight, or switch to Final grade needed and enter your current grade and the exam weight. 3. Read your result: See your weighted average, or the grade you need on the final to reach your goal.

How is a weighted average calculated?

Each grade is multiplied by its weight, the results are added up and the total is divided by the sum of the weights. Weights do not have to add up to 100.

Can I use points instead of percentages?

Yes. Write points as 46/50 and they are converted to the chosen scale, so 46/50 becomes 92 on the percent scale or 18.4 out of 20.

Does it work with the German grading scale?

Yes. Choose the German 1–6 scale, where 1 is the best grade. The calculator then treats lower grades as better when working out what you need on the final.
