How do I use Base64 Encoder / Decoder?

What does URL-safe output change?
It replaces + with - and / with _, and drops the trailing = padding, so the result can sit in a URL or filename without escaping. The option only affects encoding.
Can it decode URL-safe Base64?
Yes. Decoding accepts both the standard and the URL-safe alphabet, and missing padding is tolerated. Any other character outside the Base64 alphabet makes the input invalid.
Can I encode files or decode images?
No. The tool works with text only. Spaces at the start and end are kept when encoding, and line breaks are encoded as LF. Decoded binary data such as an image is shown as raw characters, not offered as a file.
Is my text processed on a server?
Yes. Your input is sent to the GigaTools server, converted there and returned; the tool does not store it. Base64 is an encoding, not encryption, so do not paste production credentials here.
