How do I use URL Encoder / Decoder?

Which characters does Encode change?

Everything except the letters A–Z and a–z, the digits 0–9 and the characters - _ . ~ is converted to %XX codes, following RFC 3986. Spaces become %20, and non-ASCII characters are encoded as their UTF-8 bytes.

Why did my whole URL turn into %3A and %2F?

Encode treats the input as a single component, so it also encodes characters such as : / ? & and =. That is right for a value inside a query string, but not for a complete address. Encode only the part that needs it and keep the rest unchanged.

How does Decode handle plus signs?

By default Decode turns %XX sequences back into characters and leaves + unchanged, matching Encode. Tick Decode + as a space for form-encoded query strings, where + stands for a space.

Is my text sent anywhere?

Yes, the conversion runs on the GigaTools server: your text is posted there, converted and returned. The tool does not store it, and the response is marked private and not cacheable. Avoid pasting URLs that contain secret tokens or session IDs.
