Binary to Text Converter

Decode binary bytes into readable text with UTF-8 or strict ASCII, without uploading your input.

Free No sign-up Runs in your browser

Use eight bits per byte. Separate bytes with whitespace or commas, or paste one continuous bit stream. Each separated byte may start with 0b.

Up to 1 MiB of input and 64 KiB of decoded bytes. Invalid UTF-8 is reported instead of replaced.

Conversion stays in your browser. Nothing is uploaded or stored by this tool.

Binary conversion is an encoding, not encryption. Some decoded control characters are not visible.

Common uses

  • Read a byte example from a programming exercise
  • Check whether a binary byte sequence forms valid UTF-8
  • Recover readable text from a supplied binary representation

How it works

How to use Binary to Text Converter

Paste binary bytes

Enter complete eight-bit bytes, such as 01000001 for A. You can use spaces, commas, line breaks or a continuous stream of bits.

Match the original encoding

Choose UTF-8 for modern text or strict ASCII for bytes from 0 to 127. A wrong encoding can fail or produce the wrong characters.

Decode and check the text

Run the decoder, review the result, then copy it or download a text file. Invalid UTF-8 is an error; it is not silently replaced.

FAQ

Good to know

How do I use Binary to Text Converter?

1. Paste binary bytes: Enter complete eight-bit bytes, such as 01000001 for A. You can use spaces, commas, line breaks or a continuous stream of bits. 2. Match the original encoding: Choose UTF-8 for modern text or strict ASCII for bytes from 0 to 127. A wrong encoding can fail or produce the wrong characters. 3. Decode and check the text: Run the decoder, review the result, then copy it or download a text file. Invalid UTF-8 is an error; it is not silently replaced.

How do I convert 01000001 to text?

01000001 is the byte value 65, which represents A in ASCII and UTF-8. Several bytes can represent one character in UTF-8.

Why is my binary rejected?

Every byte needs eight bits. Other digits, incomplete groups and invalid UTF-8 sequences are rejected. This tool does not guess UTF-16, legacy encodings or encrypted data.

Can this decode any binary file?

No. It reads pasted byte representations as text. Images, executables and encrypted files are not necessarily valid text. Nothing is executed, and conversion does not translate between languages.
