Frequently asked questions

How do I use IPv4 /24 Network Comparison?

1. Enter the first IP: Type an IPv4 address such as 192.168.1.10 in First IP. 2. Enter the second IP: Type the address you want to compare with it in Second IP. 3. Read the verdict: Press the Run button. The result reads Same Class C network, Different Class C networks or Invalid IPv4 address.

What exactly is compared?

The tool checks that both are valid IPv4 addresses and compares their first 24 bits, the first three numbers. If they match, both addresses are in the same /24 block, which is still often called a Class C network.

Does it show who owns the IPs or where they are hosted?

No. It makes no network lookups, so it says nothing about the hosting company, autonomous system or location. Two addresses in different /24 blocks can still belong to the same provider.

Which inputs does it accept?

Only valid dotted IPv4 addresses; IPv6 is reported as invalid. Parts above 255, such as 300.1.1.1, and leading zeros, such as 010, are rejected, so a typo cannot produce a false match.

Are the IP addresses sent anywhere?

They are sent to the GigaTools server, compared during that request and returned. No outside service is contacted and the tool does not save the addresses.
