Frequently asked questions

How do I use Online MD5 Generator?

1. Type or paste your text: Enter the value you want to hash into the Text field. It is a single-line field. 2. Generate the digest: Press Run Online MD5 Generator to calculate the MD5 hash of exactly what you entered. 3. Copy the hash: Use the Copy button to take the 32-character hexadecimal digest and compare or reuse it.

Can I use MD5 to store passwords?

No. MD5 is fast and broken for security purposes: collisions can be produced deliberately and common inputs are easy to look up. For passwords use a dedicated algorithm such as bcrypt or Argon2, and for protection against tampering prefer SHA-256 or stronger.

Why does my hash differ from another tool?

MD5 hashes the exact bytes. A trailing space, different capitalization or a different character encoding changes the result completely. This tool hashes the text as UTF-8 and shows the digest in lowercase hex. Line breaks cannot be entered in the single-line field.

Can an MD5 hash be turned back into the text?

Not by calculation, but short or common values can be found in lookup tables, so an MD5 hash does not keep text secret. This tool only hashes text; it cannot hash files.

Where is the hash calculated?

On the GigaTools server: your text is posted there, hashed, and the digest is returned. The tool does not store the text, and the response is marked private and not cacheable. Do not enter real passwords or other secrets.
