Frequently asked questions

How do I use EXIF Data Remover?

1. Choose an image: Pick a photo in the Image field. Processing starts as soon as the file is selected. 2. Let the browser re-encode it: Your browser redraws the picture on a canvas and saves a fresh copy, leaving EXIF, GPS and camera details behind. 3. Download the clean copy: Click Download cleaned image to save the file as gigatools-clean.jpg or gigatools-clean.png.

Will the image quality change?

PNG files are saved as PNG again. Every other format is saved as JPEG at 92 percent quality, so there may be a slight loss, and transparent areas turn black.

Will my photo stay the right way up?

Modern browsers apply the orientation tag when they draw the image, so the clean copy should look the same. Check the result before deleting your original.

Is other hidden data removed as well?

The new file is built only from the pixels, so embedded extras such as XMP notes or colour profiles are generally not carried over. Animated images keep only one frame.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. The whole process runs in your browser. The image is never sent to the GigaTools server or to anyone else.
