Frequently asked questions
How do I use Text Sorter?
1. Paste your lines: Enter one item per line in the Lines box. 2. Pick a sort order: Choose A → Z, Z → A, By length or By number under Sort order, and tick Case-sensitive if capital letters should come first. 3. Sort and copy: Press Run Text Sorter and copy the sorted lines from the result.
Is sorting case-sensitive?
Not by default: A → Z and Z → A ignore case, so apple and Apple sit together. Tick Case-sensitive to put capital letters before lowercase ones.
How are numbers sorted?
In A → Z and Z → A, digits inside a line are compared as whole numbers, so file2 comes before file10. By number sorts by the first number in each line, including decimals and negative numbers; lines without a number go last.
How does By length work?
Lines go from shortest to longest, counted in characters, so é or ü counts as one. Lines of the same length keep their order, and blank lines move to the top.
Is my text stored?
Your lines are sent over HTTPS to the GigaTools server, sorted for that request and returned to you. The tool does not save them.
