Frequently asked questions

How do I use Website Screenshot Generator?

1. Enter a public URL: Type the full address, including https://, into the Public URL field. 2. Generate the preview: Press Run Website Screenshot Generator. GigaTools checks that the address is public, then asks the thum.io service for a screenshot on your behalf. 3. View or save the image: The preview appears below with the page address. Press Download image to save it, or open the live page to compare.

Who makes the screenshot?

The third-party service thum.io renders it. The GigaTools server fetches the image and shows it to you, so your browser does not connect to thum.io.

What size is the screenshot?

It is 1200 pixels wide and cropped to 630 pixels tall, so you see the top part of the page rather than its full length.

Why is the preview blank or out of date?

Some sites block automated visitors or require a login, and the service may return a cached image. Use Open the live page to compare with the current version.

Where is my URL sent?

To the GigaTools server, which checks that it is public and passes it to thum.io to render the screenshot. thum.io receives the URL but not your IP address. Only enter pages you are happy to share with that service.
