Frequently asked questions
How do I use Link Analyzer?
1. Copy the page HTML: Open the page source in your browser or copy the HTML from your CMS editor, then paste it into the Paste HTML box. 2. Run the analysis: The tool finds every <a> tag with an href, quoted or not, and lists its anchor text, or the URL when the text is empty. 3. Review the link labels: Each link is labelled internal or external. Add your domain, or keep the page’s canonical tag in the pasted HTML, so that absolute links to your own site count as internal.
How are internal and external links told apart?
Relative paths, page anchors and mailto: or tel: links are internal. Absolute http or https links are internal when they point to your domain or one of its subdomains, and external otherwise. Your domain comes from the optional field or, if that is empty, from the canonical, og:url or base tag in the HTML.
Does it detect nofollow or broken links?
No. It does not read rel attributes and does not visit any destination, so follow status and broken links have to be checked separately.
Can it analyze a live URL?
No. It works only on pasted HTML. Links added by JavaScript appear only if you paste the rendered HTML, for example copied from your browser’s developer tools.
Is my HTML stored?
The pasted HTML is sent to the GigaTools server, where the links are read with an HTML parser. Nothing is fetched and the tool does not save your input.
