Frequently asked questions
How do I use XML Sitemap Generator?
1. Paste your page URLs: Enter one absolute URL per line, including https://, in the One URL per line box. 2. Generate the sitemap: Run the tool to wrap each valid URL in a url and loc entry inside a urlset. Lines that are not valid URLs are dropped; duplicates are kept. 3. Check and upload: Copy the XML from the Generated sitemap box, save it as sitemap.xml, check it with the XML Sitemap Validator and upload it to your site.
Does it crawl my website to find pages?
No. It only uses the URLs you paste. Pages you leave out will not appear in the sitemap, so take the list from your CMS, a crawl or your navigation.
Are lastmod, changefreq or priority added?
No. Each entry contains only a loc element. Google ignores changefreq and priority; add an accurate lastmod by hand if you track real modification dates.
Will a sitemap get my pages indexed?
Not on its own. A sitemap helps search engines discover URLs, but it does not guarantee crawling or indexing. Submit it in Google Search Console and follow the indexing reports there.
Is my URL list stored?
The list is sent to the GigaTools server, which builds the XML and returns it. The URLs are not visited and the tool does not save them.
