Frequently asked questions
How do I use Plagiarism Checker?
1. Paste your text: Put the text you want to check into the Original text box. 2. Add the source to compare: Paste the passage you want to compare it with into Reference text, then press Run Plagiarism Checker. 3. Read the shared-word score: The result shows what percentage of the distinct words in your text also appear in the reference.
Does it search the web for copied content?
No. It compares your text only with the reference text you paste. It does not search the internet, publications or any database, so it cannot find sources you do not supply.
How is the percentage calculated?
Both texts are split into distinct words. The score is the share of distinct words in the original text that also appear anywhere in the reference, ignoring capitalisation, word order and how often each word is used.
Does a high score prove plagiarism?
No. Two texts on the same topic share many everyday words such as “the” or “with”, so the score can be high without any copying, while a reworded copy can score lower. Treat it as a quick signal and read both texts side by side.
Where are my texts processed?
Both texts are submitted to the GigaTools server, compared there, and the score is sent back. They are not passed to any other service or plagiarism database, and the result page is marked private and not indexed.
