Which lists are checked?
Four DNS-based IP blocklists: Spamhaus ZEN, SpamCop, Barracuda and SORBS. Only the first IPv4 address of the domain is checked; domain-based lists, IPv6 and any further addresses are not.
Does it check my mail server?
Only if your mail is sent from the same IP as the domain’s web address record. Mail often goes through a separate server or provider, so look up the sending IP from your mail headers on the blocklist sites directly.
Can the result be wrong?
Yes. Blocklists change often, some refuse or limit automated queries, and a shared hosting IP can be listed because of another site. Treat the result as a signal and confirm it on the list’s own website.
What is sent where?
The domain goes to the GigaTools server, which resolves it and sends DNS queries for its IP to the four blocklists. Runs pass a security check and count toward a daily per-IP limit, and the result is not saved.
