Copy the link tags with rel="alternate" and hreflang. The checker accepts up to 1 MB and 1,000 annotations from HTML only.

Review and verify return links

Review duplicate codes, URL format and self-reference. Open each real language version separately and confirm that its annotations link back.

FAQ

Good to know

How do I use Hreflang Checker?

1. Enter the page URL: Use the absolute HTTP or HTTPS URL for the page whose HTML you will paste. It is used for comparison, not fetched. 2. Paste alternate-language tags: Copy the link tags with rel="alternate" and hreflang. The checker accepts up to 1 MB and 1,000 annotations from HTML only. 3. Review and verify return links: Review duplicate codes, URL format and self-reference. Open each real language version separately and confirm that its annotations link back.

Does this validate every language and region code?

No. It checks the shape of two-letter language codes, optional four-letter scripts and optional two-letter regions, plus x-default. It does not verify membership in ISO registries or Google support for a specific code.

Does this confirm return links or indexing?

No. It does not fetch any page, HTTP Link header or sitemap. It cannot check HTTP status, reciprocal tags, canonical selection, translated content or Google indexing. Review those separately.

Is x-default compulsory?

No. It can identify a fallback page for users whose language is not explicitly covered. The report shows whether it is present without treating absence as an automatic error.
