Which tags are generated?
og:type set to website, og:title and og:description, plus og:url, og:site_name and og:image when you fill those fields. It also adds twitter:card, twitter:title, twitter:description and twitter:image when an image is given.
How is the Twitter card type chosen?
With an Image URL the tool uses summary_large_image; without one it uses summary. You can change it by hand if you prefer a different card.
Does it check my image or escape special characters?
It escapes special characters but does not check the image. Quotes, ampersands and angle brackets are written as HTML entities, so they cannot break the tags. The image URL is not fetched, so its size and availability are not verified.
Is my input sent anywhere?
The fields are sent to the GigaTools server, which writes the tags and returns them. No URL is fetched and nothing is shared with social networks.
