How it works

How to use XML Sitemap Splitter

Paste or open a sitemap

Choose a standard XML urlset file up to 10 MB and 100,000 URL entries. A sitemap index cannot be expanded here.

Set the public directory and chunk size

Enter where the files will be hosted, choose up to 50,000 URLs per file and set a filename prefix. All URL entries must share that directory origin.

Download and publish every file

Download the generated child sitemaps and index, upload them yourself, then verify the public URLs before submitting the index.

FAQ

Good to know

How do I use XML Sitemap Splitter?

1. Paste or open a sitemap: Choose a standard XML urlset file up to 10 MB and 100,000 URL entries. A sitemap index cannot be expanded here. 2. Set the public directory and chunk size: Enter where the files will be hosted, choose up to 50,000 URLs per file and set a filename prefix. All URL entries must share that directory origin. 3. Download and publish every file: Download the generated child sitemaps and index, upload them yourself, then verify the public URLs before submitting the index.

What are the sitemap size limits?

Google documents 50,000 URLs or 50 MB uncompressed per sitemap. This tool accepts up to 10 MB and 100,000 input entries, with no more than 100 output files. It checks generated file size, but does not validate every metadata value.

Are image and hreflang entries preserved?

Yes. The tool copies each complete url element and the root namespace declarations, preserving child metadata and extension elements. It does not fetch images or validate extension semantics.

Does it remove duplicate URLs?

No. Entry order and duplicates are preserved. The report counts repeated loc values so you can review them before publishing.

Does this submit my sitemap to Google?

No. Download and host every generated file yourself. Use the site root directory when possible, check that the index URLs work and submit it through your own Search Console account.
